Nothing screams "simple living" as a simply and mindfully curated wardrobe that makes getting dressed a breeze and also makes us feel and look our best.
This is my first time assembling a capsule wardrobe - so this is honestly a work in progress, but here is how I did it.
But few other things first. So, what is a capsule wardrobe?
Capsule wardrobe is a term coined by Susie Faux, the owner of a London boutique called "Wardrobe" in the 1970s. According to Faux, a capsule wardrobe is a collection of a few essential items of clothing that don't go out of fashion, such as skirts, trousers, and coats, which can then be augmented with seasonal pieces.
Taken that straight from wikipedia because where else?
Why capsule wardrobe? I have lots of reasons:
- Timeless pieces
- Less shopping
- Not following trends
- Wearing what you like and what makes you feel good
- Everything in your wardrobe goes well together
So here is how I assembled my "summer capsule wardrobe" (keep in mind, I live in Florida so summer for me is much longer than it is for most people that don't live in Florida, or at least in the south.
1. I took all of my favorites and put them on display - tops and bottoms I always reach for - those are the staples of my capsule. I know I will wear them (because I already do) and I know they fit well.
2. Then I added two dresses and a light cardigan (which are also my absolute favorites but I haven't been reaching for them in a while). Both dresses can be dressed up or down, so they are very versatile. I also added a light cardigan just in case we get a cooler weather (not likely though).
So here are all of my tank tops (8 in total):
My color scheme is not where I want it to be yet at all, but I'm getting there. Also the lightning is weird so the top that looks pink is actually a purple lilac color just as the first one.
I made the blue stripy one :)
Here are all of my t-shirts (5 in total):
Here are all of my skirts (4 in total):
I made the mustard one and the chambray one with a bow. They all are midi skirts.
Here are my dresses (2) (one midi and one mini) and a cardigan (1) (which looks carrot yellow but it's actually mustard color):
And my chambray tops (3) which I also often use as a beach cover ups ( I don't like traditional cover ups and chambray blue looks so nice over the swimsuit)
Here is my 23 piece (3 of those are hand made) summer capsule wardrobe. This however does not include my swimsuits (I have 2), my jeans and shorts as I'm still working on this (picking favorites and such), my loungewear, pajamas, my activewear and my shoes.
I only wanted to capsule pieces that I wear outside daily, so that dressing will be much easier for me.
A thing to keep in mind is that this is an open capsule wardrobe - if I feel like I'm missing something I will go ahead and add it (I have more clothes in the main closet which for the duration of summer and my summer capsule I shouldn't reach for unless for the reason stated above) and if I feel like I'm not getting use out of something too much I will go ahead and remove it.
